Disembarkation is still ongoing in Italy. Last night, coastguards rescued about 1,200 people who arrived in Palermo. Among the refugees, there are about 50 children, 298 women – 13 of them are pregnant. Refugees mainly arrived from Syria, Eritrea and Somalia. In Palermo, a task force in ongoing, employees of the Mayor are taking care of unaccompanied children, Caritas, First Aid and Civil Protection.
Refugees who arrived were taken to the shelter houses in Giacalone and Trabia. The Mayor Leoluca Orlando and the Prefect Francesca Cannizzo attended the disembarkation. “This was the most numerous disembarkation in Palermo – said Canizzo – but the organization worked perfectly”. Orlando was proud of his city, “Once again Palermo welcomes people who have the right to be taken care of, today we experienced great institutional cooperation”
