Industrial production figures in Italy have risen more than expected: in March they rose 0.4 percent from February and 1.5% as compared to the same period in 2014. Istat reports that in January-March semester 2015, figures rose 0.3% compared to the previous three months but fell by 0.1% compared to the same period in 2014.
The seasonally adjusted index-stresses the Institute, has presented positive changes in February in consumer goods groupings (+1.4%) and intermediate goods (+0.3%) however a decrease in capital goods ( -0.2%) and energy ( -0.1). In March 2014, corrected indexes for calendar effects, have shown increases in the field of energy (+4.8%) and consumer goods (+3.5%) and, slightly less in capital goods (+1.4%) marking a decrease in intermediate goods (-2.0).
As regards to economic activity in March, the sectors with the highest growth the same month in 2014 are those of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+22.2 percent), manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+15.9%) and manufacture of means of transport (+13.2). Further decreases are recorded in the fields of mining (-9.4), wood industry, paper and printing ( -5.9%) and manufacture of electrical equipment and household appliances, non-electric ( -5.1).
