American forces have killed about 40 Isis members involved in the preparation of several attacks in Africa and Europe, including those in Paris and Bruxelles. Some Pentagon officials revealed it to the Daily Beast. Most of these terrorists – who are accused of having instigated, financed, or planned attacks – were struck in Syria. Isis fighters – according to Pentagon sources – would have decreased from 33 thousand last year to 19-25 thousand at present.
Besides, according to the site founded by Tina Brown, the influx of so-called foreign fighters into Iraq and Syria has dropped from about 2.000/month last year to 200 at present. At the top of the the US Special Forces’ list of targets there is the network of Isis members responsible for the so-called “external operations”, i.e. 60 attacks in 21 countries that have caused thousands of deaths since January 2015.
Among the Islamic State members who were killed there are also senior executives of the Caliph, such as the number-two man terrorist of the organization Haji Imam, struck by a raid last March. And else, Charaffe al-Mouadan (directly linked to Abdel Hamid Abaoud, the mastermind of the Paris attacks) and Abdul Kader Hakim who was killed last December in Mosul, Iraq, involved in the attacks in the French capital too. Defense Secretary Ash Carter preferred remain prudent in estimating the foreign fighters who were killed, explaining that it is “difficult to be precise”, but explaining that in general, their number is dropping.
