Wrapped in dirty blankets of dust and excrement, these wer the conditions found of a child of two months and a child of three years. To have discovered the two children was the municipal police in a nomadic camp on the outskirts of Rome in via Salone, where in recent days a municipal police had been struck with a punch in the face following a routine check of the area.
The smaller of the two was in a cot while the eldest, was sitting in a stroller with a broken leg and pelvis in plaster. The discovery occurred during an investigation to find the foreigner that recently had assaulted the police, and who is probably believed to be the father of the two children. The children meanwhile were entrusted to social services even though a woman had shown up claiming to be the mother of the two.
According to police findings the mother had been arrested for stealing three months ago. In prison she had obtained permission to hold the newborn baby, while the eldest, with his father, had fallen from the stairs and had fractured his leg. At the hospital doctors had already noticed the bad hygienic state of the child. The checks carried out by the authorities fall under a much wider security plan against terrorism that has been underway in recent weeks in view of the next Jubilee.
