The volunteers who departed by car from Vienna in order to reach Hungary and take the migrants who those days have attempted to arrive to the border, have come back to Austria. The promoters of the initiative celebrate their campaign on social networks. “We are celebrating together with the migrants the success of this procession; we are celebrating the success of this initiative with migrants to whom we offered a safe passage”. The volunteers of #marchofhope tell they have not travelled in “blocks”, so as to reduce the risk of being stopped by the border police.
The refugees have been also provided with essentials such as food and water, clothing and children toys. Someone has also distributed tickets with phone numbers of lawyers ready to assist them legally in case any of them got arrested. During the same hours another tragedy occurred in the Mediterranean Sea: a dinghy load with refugees deflated just before the arrival of the maritime rescue. There are about twenty dispersed people who fell into the water, at least according to the testimony of the survivors who arrived to Lampedusa.
The Hungarian police announced that “the drivers who arrived today from Austria” (in order to assist migrants on the border) “risk to be charged with trafficking of human beings’. However, the police has not made any detentions on the border. Gradually is returning the state of emergency, allowing, thus, the passage of refugees through Austria.
In the meantime, in Germany the government puts at the disposal of the federal states and municipalities approximately six billion euros to cope with the arrival of the refugees in the country. The bureaucratic procedures for asylum applications will be shortened. BBC online reports also that additional facilities to accommodate the refugees will be provided. It is estimated that 8,000 migrants arrived in Germany after the agreement reached with Hungary and Austria. Most of them arrived by train to Munich, while others were brought to Frankfurt and Dortmund. Other Austrian volunteers have left Vienna this morning to pick up other migrants who are still in Hungary.
