If these name were the casting of a film, it would be a billionaire production that fused mainstream and experimental essai, but instead it is the jury of the Cannes festival. Three months ago, the brothers Coen became the presidents of the festival; and now they announced the jury that will choose the winner of the Palme d’Or for the 68th Edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
For the 2015 edition, the jury is going to be composed by: the Spanish actress Rossy de Palma; the French Sophie Marceau; the New Yorker Sienna Miller; the Mali singer Rokia Traorè; the director and producer Guillermo del Toro, the Canadian enfant prodige Xavier Dolan and the always-welcomed Jake Gyllenhaal. They are going to judge 18 films, among them there are three Italian directors that are trying to be as successful as they were in Paris: Moretti, Sorrentino and Garrone.
Four women and five men, but most importantly, four actors and five directors (counting Marceau in both categories), since it is experiences and personal inclination that determine our taste and final choices. It will be interesting to find out how much the professional background of such famous artists will make their choices foreseeable. Whatever their decision, it is going to be announced on May 24.
