Scotland Premier Salmond: “Independence is the historic opportunity “

“Scotland has before  it the historic opportunity and it won’t allow it to slip out of its hands”.  In Alex Salmond’s words, Scottish Premier and leader of the Independence Party, met the foreign press yesterday, including the daily Italian newspaper “La Republicca”. “We won’t stand for any  intimidation and bullying from London –pointed out the head of the Edinburgh government. Scottish well understand that the referendum represents the historic opportunity to build a more prosperous country “.

The concerns expressed these days are those related to the economic situation. But according to Salmond,  the problem is inexistant:  “we have a per capita GDP which is higher than that of France’s,  Japan’s and Britain’s. “. Concerning the currency, however,  numerous  secessionists have pointed out that: “the Scottish want to share  a monetary Union with England. It is felt that London is bluffing when it claims that this will not be possible.  After the referendum any existing controversy  will be handled through civil negotiation between the two parties”.

The agenda includes the issue of Europe as well.  It is to be wandered in particular whether Brussels, following  independence, may think of excluding Edinburgh. “I really wouldn’t think so, Scotland still has 60 percent of the reserves of oil and gas in Europe, “ he went on,”I doubt that the EU would  want to do without us “. Scottish premier’s statements come a day following Queen Elizabeth II’s plea  to some subjectsthat were waiting outside Crathie Church in Scotland, in the vicinity of Balmoral Castle. According to the Daily Telegraph,  Her Majesty allegedly has exhorted them to “carefully ponder  over the vote on Thursday,  because it is  a very important referendum”.
