There are over 130 deaths in Alindao in the south-east of the Central African Republic, caused by armed groups who also attacked Bangassou (230km east of Alindao), where 6 Blue Helmets were killed in two different attacks.

According to local sources “the situation is calm in Bangui. We do not know how many people have died in Bangassou, but probably about a dozen and tension remains high. There are refugees in churches and mosques. Both the Bishop of Bangassou and Bangui are trying to do something to stop the fighting”.

Armed groups responsible for the violence that have hit some parts of the country in the last two weeks, “are unidentified groups, similar to anti-balaka, who often target UN soldiers“, the sources say.

The Central African Army (FACA) has just completed training, but remains without weapons and is unable to restore order”, the sources conclude.
