“Brothers, you will do this, knowing the time: it is time now to wake from sleep, because now our salvation is nearer than when we believed.” This is the invitation that Paul addressed to the Romans, but also to each of us, in this particular moment of the liturgical year. A time of waiting and witness.
Advent is the period of preparation for the great event of Christmas, a time when the chronos becomes kairos: the opportune time for the manifestation of God in this moment.
The kairos is the convenient circumstance for an initiative of God to be seized in the present. The opportunity given to us in this kairos is to discover God as the God of surprises, as Pope Francis likes to say. God is novelty, not a fixed and static concept. Theology, in fact, as Rahner reminds us: is an expression of the history of salvation, God treats man in new ways and unpredictable “.
It is the reality, the story, which constantly challenges us and requires from us an answer. All the reality of man and his personality are vetted by an original experience that constitutes his face in facing with everything: it is a complex of needs and evidences with which man is projected into the comparison with what it is there and that puts into action all the human question, it is man’s own ego impact with reality in every aspect. At the origin of this tension, it is the initiative of Jesus Christ primerear, to quote the words of the Pontiff. The Lord takes the initiative, from him comes the impulse that opens to the new relationship of God and oriented to the future definitive.
Advent, therefore, is not an empty time, but a time where is God who precedes and acts, he chooses us and he wants us to choose Him.
And so the phase of our witness. The theme of authenticity and inauthenticity of the human condition lies in the decision that the man himself takes every time “before God”; indeed we might say that the moment is an opportunity that God gives us to manifest His mercy and he awaits our response: a response to the mercy of God present among us, especially in the suffering, the poor and excluded .
Thanks to this moment, this gift given by God, the disciple becomes a new man with a new quality; he converted because he was given by God a new movement, not to run away from the truth, but to meet it and receive it: the decisive moment marks the either-or existence, which marks “the expression by which the double doors open and the ideals they show; It is the signal that gives access to the Unconditional; It is the key of heaven. “
