In Morning Homily celebration in Santa Marta Pope Francis focused on today’s Gospel passage to put the emphasis on the foundation of our Christian life.”The cornerstone – taking St. Paul – is Jesus himself . Without Jesus there is no Church”, but, noted Francis, the passage from the Gospel of St. Luke adds a detail that should make us reflect: “‘Jesus went up the mountain to pray and spent the whole night praying to God. And then comes all the other: the people, the choice of the disciples, healings, casting out demons … The cornerstone is Jesus, yes: but Jesus praying. Jesus prays. He prayed and continues to pray for the Church. The corner stone of the Church is the Lord before the Father, interceding for us, praying for us. We pray Him, but the foundation ” is He who prays for us. ”

“Jesus always prayed “, also during the Last Supper. Jesus, he added, “before doing some miracle, prays.Let’s think about  Lazarus resurrection: prays to the Father. On the Olives Mount  Jesus prays; on the Cross, praying ends: his life ended in prayer. And this is our security, this is our foundation, this is our corner stone: Jesus praying for us! Jesus praying for me! And each of us can say this: I’m sure, I’m sure that Jesus prays for me; before the Father  he appointed me. This is the cornerstone of the Church: Jesus in prayer. ”

“We think that step, before the Passion – said Francesco – when Jesus turns to Peter, with the warning”: “Peter … Satan has obtained permission to pass being considered, such as grain. But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail “:” And he says to Peter, says to you, and to you, and you, and me, and to all: ‘I have prayed for you, I pray for you, now I’m praying for you ‘, and when it is on the altar, he is to intercede, to pray for us. As on the Cross. And this gives us a great safety. I belong to this community, firm because its cornerstone Jesus, but Jesus praying for me, pray for us. Today it will do well to think about the Church; reflect on this mystery of the Church. We are  all like a building, but the foundation is Jesus, Jesus praying for us. Jesus is praying for me. “
