The Pontiff’s grief for the victims of Hurricane Matthew

  • Italiano

“When he learned about the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew, which has caused considerable damage, Pope Francis has expressed his sorrow for all the victims, gathering together in prayer to all those who have lost a loved one.” Bergoglio expressed his “pain” and “closeness in prayer” to all those who have been struck by Hurricane Matthew.

This is what reads a telegram signed by Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and sent to the President of the Haitian Bishops’ Conference, Cardinal Chibly Langlois. The Pope prays for the victims and assures “his spiritual closeness and affection to the injured and to all those who lost their homes and belongings in the disaster.” Moreover, the Pope encourages the population to “solidarity in this new blow for the country” and “entrusts all Haitians – concluded the telegram – to the maternal protection of Our Lady of Perpetual Help”, sending his wholehearted “apostolic blessing”.
