After walking around the St. Peter’s Square to greet the faithful, Pope Francis has been welcomed in the churchyard of the papal basilica with the songs of the group “Catholic Women of Indonesia”, “My Country Choir” in Jakarta, dressed in traditional clothes. But before going to St. Peter’s Square, the Pope had visited the Paolo VI Hall to personally greet the groups of patients who followed the catechesis on giant screens because of the bad weather.
“The Christian – Francis said – must forgive, but why? Because he was forgiven, all of us present here, in the square, all of us have been forgiven. None of us has ever needed God’s forgiveness in their life because we have already been forgiven, we must forgive, we recite it every day in ‘Our Heavenly Father’ forgive us our sins, forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors’, that is, forgive offenses, forgive many things because we have been forgiven for so many offenses and so many sins, it is so easy to forgive, if God has forgiven me, why can I not forgive the others? Am I greater than God? Do you understand it?
“The merciful love is the only possible way”, “you have to be – the Pope has warned – a bit ‘more merciful. Do not speak ill of the others, do not criticize them, with envy and jealousy. Forgive, be merciful, live our own life in love and give.” “Do not forget this, – he said in a later step – mercy and gift, forgiveness and the gift. Your heart grows in love, whereas selfishness and anger make your heart shrink, become small, even tiny, and it hardens like a stone. What do you prefer? A heart of stone? I ask you, answer; I do not feel well, a heart full of love? Well, if you prefer a heart full of love, be merciful”.
