After ten days of hard work, the Army Corps of Engineers and volunteers of the Civil Protection of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the bridge Three Eyes was re-opened in Amatrice, a town that, due to the significant loss of lives and extensive damages to the structures, has become the symbol of the country’s earthquake zone. “It will be called the Renaissance Bridge – Amatrice mayor, Sergio Pirozzi, – said moved. Today begins a new life. I will keep this flag, which is a sign of rebirth.”
Meanwhile, in the already hard-hit areas, was registered a new, magnitude 4.5 earthquake. The shock was recorded by the Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), which has explained that the epicenter area was located on the border between the provinces of Macerata and Ascoli Piceno, more precisely, in Castelsantangelo sul Nera, Montegallo and Montemonaco.
“The first solution to the earthquake emergency had been tents – said Fabrizio Curcio, head of Civil Protection -, but the next step, on which everyone has agreed, was to remain in the hit territories. Among the solutions that will allow to stay and return to their native cities, there are lodges. Yet, seven months are necessary to implement them and they will have to manage the seven months they need.” The commissioner for the earthquake emergency, Vasco Errani, asked the Accumoli population “to test us. Let us say you will be in these lodges in seven months, and this is what we want to happen. We will give you houses in your territory.”
Moreover, in the night, the police arrested two previous offenders, respectively 47 and 41 of age, who passed themselves off as two volunteers, and ransacked one of the tent cities near Ascoli Piceno, at Acquasanta Terme. The two of them were identified by the police officers in service in the tent city. They were stopped and their van was searched. The result was a bitter discovery: inside the vehicle, were found belongings of the civil protection, fire department, personal goods of the citizens and many toys intended for the children in the tent city.
