One million euro from the Italian otto per mille tax. This is the figure earmarked by the Italian Episcopal Conference (IEC) for the initial emergency caused by the earthquake that struck central Italy last night.
“The Church in Italy is gathered in prayer for all the victims – says IEC’s National Office for Social Communications – and expresses fraternal closeness to the people affected by this tragic event. The dioceses, the network of parishes, religious institutes and lay associations are invited to alleviate the difficult conditions in which people are forced to live ” Therefore, IEC Presidency organized a national collection, to be held in all the Italian churches on 18 September, 2016 – a date that coincides with the 26th National Eucharistic Congress -, like a “fruit of charity that comes from it and everyone’s participation in the concrete needs of the affected populations”.
The collected donations – IEC goes on to say – will be promptly sent to Italian Caritas, Via Aurelia 796-00165 Rome, using the following bank account:. 347013 or by bank transfer to Banca Popolare Etica, via Paris 17, Rome – Iban: IT 29 U 05018 03200 000000011113, specifying “Colletta terremoto centro Italia” ‘collection money earthquake central Italy’.
