A massacre of young people in Northern France. It happened after midnight in Rouen, Normandy. They were celebrating a birthday party – announces Paris.Normandie.fr. The site explains that a terrorist trail is to be excluded: it seems to have been caused accidentally, according to investigations. The current death toll is at 13 dead and 6 injured in serious condition; all of them are young people, between 18 and 25 years of age. The tragedy was caused by a fire in the basement of the local “The Cuba Libre”, located on rue Jacques Cartier. Firefighters arrived shortly after on the spot and were able to extinguish the flames about half an hour later, using all of the available means.
Their bodies were brought to the hospital of Rouen, where a team of psychologists will offer support to the victims’ families. Eleven witnesses were brought to the police station to reconstruct what happened and to identify responsibilities, if any. Apparently, fire broke out inside the bar at the moment of blowing out the candles on the cake. Perhaps the person who was carrying the dessert has tripped and the flames quickly spread throughout the room, whose soundproof ceiling caught fire, swiftly spreading the fire and producing toxic gases. The adjacent streets and the entire neighborhood were cordoned off to allow rescue operations and investigations.
