More violence and death in the US, this time in Florida, in a nightclub in Fort Myers. Shortly after one o’clock in the morning, a man broke into the local where a teenage party was taking place – a so-called “teen night” – and opened fire at people inside. The provisional death toll is at two dead. Dozens of people have been injured and some of them are in critical condition.
According to local media, all the victims are very young, between 13 and 14 years of age. Witnesses said they heard at least 30 gunshots coming from the local and described the scene as a “madhouse”.
Police said to have seized a suspect while another one seems to be still on the run. An official statement reads that “The Fort Myers Police Department and the office of the Lee County Sheriff are looking for other people who might be involved in the shooting.”
Still according to the police, another shooting – it is not clear whether it is connected to the first one or not – occurred in the same town in Florida: someone fired at a car and at a house, wounding one person. The police are on the trail of two men and of a third suspect.
