In the video message published today on the occasion of prayer intention for the month of July, Pope Francis becomes the mouthpiece of instances of the peoples whose identity is threatened more and more. The occasion, this time, is the prayer intention for the month of July. In the video, the Pope asked everyone to unite for the indigenous peoples.
“I want to ask, on behalf of the indigenous peoples, to respect our lifestyle, our rights and our traditions. Will they listen to me?” This question comes from an indigenous young woman, in her native language. She becomes the interpreter of the needs of all indigenous peoples. The Pope, who has always – since the years when he was archbishop of Buenos Aires – been taking care of their fate – answered her and all the threatened peoples.
“I want to echo and become a spokesman of the deepest desires of the indigenous peoples – Francis said -. And I want your voice to join mine.” While in the video images representing faces of women and men of different ethnicities and cultures followed one another, the Pope asked the faithful, this month of July, to pray “with all their heart for the indigenous peoples, whose identity and even existence are threatened, to be respected.”
