Pope Francis has decided to celebrate “Lord’s Supper” Mass on Holy Thursday with the traditional rite of the washing of the feet, with the refugees hosted by an organization in Rome. After having visited a juvenile prison, a senior center and the Rebibbia prison last year, the Pope decided that this year, for the celebration which will take place on March 24, he will make a special gesture of attention for refugees and migrants.
During the daily morning homily held at St. Martha’s House, the Pontiff often touches on the subject of migrants. “It will be good for us to think of the many people who do not receive even a last caress at the time of dying. Three days ago a person died here, in the street, a homeless people who died of cold – he said during one of his recent reflections -. In the middle of Rome, a city which has all the tool to be able to help. Why, Lord? Not even a caress.” They are so many, “dark valleys” in our time. Francis has sketched many sore lists. The despair of people who are fleeing, such as the Syrians blocked in Idumeni, on the border between Greece and Macedonia, always comes back in his speeches.
