Three years have passed since Bergoglio appeared in papal vestments in the benediction loggia of the Vatican Basilica for the first time. Today, the San Lorenzo Center organizes a non-stop prayer marathon of 24 hours in Rome, on the occasion of the third year of Francis’ Pontificate. The event, titled “3 years with Pope Francis”, is planned on Sunday, March 13 in San Lorenzo in Piscibus Church (via Pfeiffer, 24, 50 meters away from San Pietro), where the original “cross” John Paul II gave young people on the occasion of World youth Day, in 1983, is kept. Special features of the initiative during this Jubilee year is confession. Priests will be giving the sacrament for the entire duration of the event. Everything will begin on Saturday, March 12, at 10 p.m., with the Eucharistic adoration; Mass will follow at 11 p.m., which will mark the official beginning of the “prayer marathon” that will end at midnight next day.
There are several side events scheduled besides the non-stop prayer, such as participation in the Angelus, on Sunday morning in St. Peter’s Square, the rosary recited by children at 2 p.m., and a dinner with the homeless from at 8.30 p.m. Twenty ecclesial organizations will partake in the event and each one of them will lead the vigil for an hour, animating it with songs and entertainment. Among them there are going to be Eucharistic Renewal, Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, Apostles of the Interior Life, the Legionaries of Christ, the Monfortiani, the Secular Institute Mary Mother of Redemption, the Apostolic Movement, the Basilica of St. Anastasia on the Palatine, Midaf, the Community Risen Christ, and worshipers with Mary Queen of Peace, the prayer Group Light of Mary, and Emmanuel Community. The coordination of the initiative has been entrusted to the National Association Papaboys, in collaboration with San Lorenzo youth center. The custody of the Blessed Sacrament during the 24 hours of prayer will be guaranteed by the Catholic Knights Templar, while volunteers’ service during the event will be coordinated by Ancis Politeia Association. “Joyfully, we encourage all young people, prayer groups, associations or religious orders to join us in this moment of prayer for the Pope and for the good the Church!”- say some young organizers of the initiative. “An event promoted in order to entrust the papacy and the life of the Holy Father to Jesus. Francis himself asks on every occasion: ‘Pray for me!’. This is our answer.”
