After having answered with six short-range rockets launched into the Sea of Japan, right off the South Korean cost, Pyongyang’s regime answered the new EU sanctions with the decision to raise the bar and send a new challenge message to the international community.

In fact, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un gave the order to prepare the country’s nuclear device to be used at any time. It was reported by CNN, but the same information was spread also by the South Korean Agency Yonhap. The echo of this threat has spread worldwide, raising the alarm. The Pentagon has even stated that they are closely monitoring the developments of the situation. Besides, Washington warned North Korea again to “avoid provocations”.

Attention level was already high a few hours after the turning in New York, the result of the agreement between China and the US, when Pyongyang launched the ballistic tests from the North Korean east coast: rockets, whose kind is still unclear, flied for about 100-150 kilometers before falling into the sea, according to the South Korean joint Staff. North Korea’s “symbolic” response, almost a granted one, after the warning emphatically transmitted by the official media that further sanctions would be “a serious provocation” and prove Washington’s “extreme” hostility towards the country.

The new measures, which are a result of the fourth nuclear test on January 6 and the launch of the rocket/satellite that took place one month later, include also an inspection mandate for the cargos departing from or arriving to North Korea by land, water, and air; a ban on transferring and selling light weapons in the North; the expulsion of North Korean diplomats involved in “illegal activities”. The new sanctions were voted unanimously by the UN Security Council and have also been agreed with China, North Korea’s ally since always.
