“We thank Pope Francis for having reminded all the peoples around the world of the value of forgiveness, without forgetting that peace is needed between Palestinian and Israeli refugees and immigrants while celebrating Christmas Mass”. These are the words of Foad Aodi, Focal Point in Italy for Integration of the UN agency UNAOC and President of the Community of the Arab world in Italy (CO-MAI), referring to the last Angelus (that of December 26) pronounced by the Pontiff.
“Arabs and Muslims respect Christian values and holidays, strongly condemning all acts of terrorism – Aodi stated -. The Community of the Arab world in Italy is proud to feel part of a new Europe which finds its strength in the open dialog between the two shores, whose recent history is marked by deep pain caused by the thousands of lives lost in the Mediterranean Sea and by the victims of terrorism, in Europe and in the Middle East. Arabs and Muslims do not lose hope and support, together with their Italian brothers, this message of peace, because the Arab world does not have any inferiority complex towards the West”.
According to Aodi “Muslim integration has not failed, whereas the same cannot be said about those who, while being of foreign origin, support and declare the contrary. Our communities do not include nor appreciate those declarations which exacerbate islamophobia at times which are so delicate on an international level”.
