The head of the Pentagon, Ashton Carter is in the eye of the storm for having used his personal email account during the first months of work as US Secretary of Defense for communications related to his official business, as the New York Times has revealed. According to the NYT, Carter has continued to do so, despite the fact that it violates the rules of the Department of Defense, for at least two more months after it came out that Hillary Clinton had used a personal email account while she was secretary of State.
It is not clear yet when Carter has stopped using the account. But an administration official said that when the White House Chief of Staff, Denis McDonough R. found out about Carter’s habits, that is in May, he quickly contacted the Department of Defense to ask for explanations about the use of this personal account. McDonough wanted to make sure that Carter complied with all the laws and federal regulations that regulate the use of email, the NYT writes. In a written declaration, Carter’s spokesman said that the Secretary of Defense admitted that using the personal account had been a wrong choice.
