The Pope of the records scores a new primacy. After having exceeded 7 million followers on 6 September, today Pope Francis’ Twitter account in English has reached another milestone: 8 million followers. Obviously – according to Seismograph, the site which is being updated in real time with the activities of the Holy See – this growth was strongly encouraged by Pope Francis’ visit to US from September 22 to September 28, and perhaps also by his recent journey to Africa where English is widely spoken in two of the visited countries (Kenya and Uganda).
The followers of the 9 Pontifex accounts are over 25 million. This success confirms the popularity of the Holy Father and rewards his communication strategy. The Pontiff’s profile had been opened by Pope Benedict XVI a few months before he resigned. Yet, Francis was the one who transformed it into a consolidated reality by posting content almost on a daily basis.
