A bad joke could turn out to be a rather expensive one for the person responsible for acceptance at a hospital in Columbus, Ohio (USA). After the arrival of a girl who had a swollen eye due to a punch she had received from a male classmate, the man, making a rather bad joke, said “I bet that boy likes you”. Probably, he did not want to offend the girl, nor to show support of violence against women. But this was not sufficient for Ms. Merrit Smith, the mother of the victim of the aggression. Once back home, angry, she logged in on Facebook and wrote a vitriolic post against the man.
“Dear man from the reception, my daughter is only 4 years old, but I will teach her that this is not how a man tells that he likes you – she began -. I did not answer at the moment because I was worried about my daughter, I thought she would have needed stitches, but your joke was completely out of place. I will not let my daughter learn from this experience that violence is the way someone shows his love”. Merrit’s post received the Web’s solidarity and was shared over 20 thousand times. The only nice detail in a really disgraceful story.
