A Belgian tourist ordered a steak on Monday afternoon in a restaurant in Venice and was brutally beaten up by 4 waiters in a dispute over the account. The 50-year-old, in Italy with his wife for their 20th wedding anniversary, complained to the staff of the restaurant because his meat was not cooked properly, and asked to change it. When they refused to do so, he announced that he would not have paid the dish. In response to that, the waiters beat the man and left him with a black eye and a few broken teeth.
“The waiters reacted badly and violently – told the wife – from verbal threats they switched instantly to punching him”. Everything happened in front of the eyes of the shocked tourists and passers-by in Campo San Zulian, close to the piazza San Marco.
“Things did not go precisely like that – justified himself the owner of the Casanova restaurant, an Albanian businessman who has been managing other restaurants in Venice for the last 15 years – the man wanted to beat the waiter who had brought him the bill. Others tried to make him leave, but he continued to instigate them. He did not want to pay and together with his wife, they became started to behave in a violent manner, so the staff escorted them out”.
Dozens of spectators saw, however, the waiters drag the tourist outside, kicking and punching him” to the point of leaving him motionless on the ground. They confirm thus the version of the couple. The victim, immediately transported to the hospital, has not suffered serious injury but will certainly not go back home with amazing memories about the Beautiful Country.
