Everyone knew that the debate in California would have been the last chance to boost the candidacy of the favorite Jeb Bush. But the former governor of Florida failed this achievement with a not particularly political performance, in which the only relief seems to be a confession of his mistakes as a young man, accompanied by a public apology to his mother.
“Forty years ago I smoked marijuana and I admit it” said Bush interrupting Rand Paul, the republican Senator who accused of hypocrisy many of his colleagues who are invoking draconian laws to regulate the drugs use after they have “smoked joints in high school” themselves. “You are talking about me – replied Jeb – my mum will not be happy with what I did”.
But this is not the end of it: Jeb, at the end of the debate, wrote “sorry mom” in a tweet that proved to be the most shared among all those with the hashtag #Cnndebate. In general, the descendant of George Senior appeared weak, too on the defensive and at times confused. He failed even to defend the work of his brother from the attack of Donald Trump who said: “The presidency of George Bush was a disaster, to the point of delivering the country into Obama’s hands”.
