Catholic doctors are called to “offer to contemporary culture, marked by secularism and relativism, the important contribution of the Christian thought that opens to the ethical and spiritual dimension and illuminates with the splendor of truth”. This is what Pope Francis asks in a message – signed by the Secretary of State Pietro Parolin – sent “on the occasion of the meeting of Catholic Doctors in northern Italy and of the conference organized by the diocesan section of the Italian Catholic Medical Association, titled: ‘Ethics and Spending Review in health – conflicts and alliances between ethics, scientific evidence, and economic resources'” which is being held in Vercelli.

“The Holy Father Pope Francis – writes the Cardinal Parolin – addresses his good wishes to the participants, always hoping for new achievements in healthcare and in the progress of medical science with constant reference to perennial human and Christian values”.  “His Holiness – he concludes the message read in the house by the metropolitan archbishop of Vercelli, monsignor Marco Arnolfo di Cambio – while asking to pray in support of his universal ministry, sends to Your Excellency, the Cardinals Dionigi Tettamanzi (the national chaplain emeritus of Amci) and Edoardo Menichelli (currently the national chaplain of the Amci), the organizers, presenters, the authorities and to all those present his heartfelt apostolic blessing, a pledge of a fruitful journey on the path of good deeds”.
