Crisis in Italy can be easily sensed, but young people do not give up: if there are no work places, they need to be created. In the Bel Paese were born – in the quarter between April and June- an average of 300 “under 35” enterprises per day, Saturdays and Sundays included. This is what emerged from a Movimprese report on young entrepreneurs, a quarterly survey conducted by Unioncamere-Infocamere, based on the register of enterprises of the Chambers of Commerce. To realize the importance of these data, consider the fact that they represent a third of all companies born during the quarter. According to the study, there is a prevalence of micro-initiatives (in 76% of the cases, in fact, individual firms are born), which represent a reaction to the search of employment.
Therefore, to the net number of firms that shut down during the same period of time (about 11 thousand), the army of youth companies during the second quarter of the year was enriched by more than 20thousand units, arriving at total of 600-thousand companies. In absolute terms, the contribution given by young people to the growth of the enterprise basis – between April and June- amounted to 54%.
A contribution that appears even more significant if one looks to its intensity: the rate of quarterly growth of young people who decide to take the risk, in fact, is of +3.6 %, compared to 0.6% of the companies’ total number.
A confirmation of the fact that the phenomenon is a response to missing work places is also another fact: in the South, where youth unemployment rate is higher, the initiatives represent 40.6% of the total, with peaks in Calabria, Campania and Sicily. The primacy of the South is backed also by the incidence of the companies on the resident population of young people (less than 35 years of age): 3.2 companies are born every 1000 young people. The provinces with the largest numbers of young entrepreneurs are L’Aquila, Vibo Valentia, and Crotone.
The sectors preferred the most by this new army are, in particular, accommodation and food service (+ 2,800), as well as construction (+ 2,300). In terms of proportions, “under 35” start-ups were decisive for the quarterly budget transport (the youth companies alone explain 100% of the compartment balance, that without them, would have ended up being negative), construction (78% on the total balance) and manufacturing (3 out of the 4 most frequent businesses).
