A member of the Marina Armada de Mexico haS died and two more were wounded after an ambush in the central square of Salitre Palmarillos, a small town in the district of Amatepec, Estado del México. Navy’s secretary announced in a public statement that the soldiers were attacked with fire-arms during the first hours of yesterday afternoon, while patrolling the area of the Seguridad Mexiquense operation.
The responsible for the assault are probably some men who belonged to a drug cartel. Muggers opened fire against the Marines from the roof of a building and from a moving vehicle. In the ambush, three Marines were wounded and after receiving first aid from their colleagues, they were transferred to the hospital. On the way, one of the soldiers died because of the wounds. The others are in stable conditions, without threats to their lives.
In the place of the ambush, aggressors left a pick up van containing weapons, marijuana, cocaine, opium gum and an arsenal of weapons with magazines and bullet boxes. Shortly before the assault, soldiers had found and destroyed almost 2,4 hectares of opium poppy plantation.
