Blocked during the taking-off in the impeccable Oslo, because the entire crew resulted positive during an alcohol test. Some extra toasts, perhaps, that was certainly not liked by the 109 passengers of the flight BT7843, AirBaltic, that yesterday was supposed to leave for Crete. As reported in the Mirror, the police arrived at the Norwegian airport after a warning that the crew members were particularly gleeful, and this has triggered the test. The results were merciless: all four, including the two pilots, had in their blood a percentage of alcohol greater than the 0.2 % allowed. The flight was cancelled and the Lithuanian low-cost company started to work on its reprogramming.
Today AirBaltic has apologized for the clumsy mistake, by specifying that the Company is now conducting a medical control of its staff. It can be read on the company’s web site. Tipsy was not only the captain, but also the first official and two flight attendants who went beyond the predetermined threshold.
Passengers, initially, according what reports Dagbladet, the Oslo newspaper, were told that the pilot was not feeling well, then followed a long delay, while the luggage had already been loaded. Then, another airBaltic crew arrived to replace the “tipsy” one. The passengers, however, as soon as they heard the true reasons of the problem, showed anger and fear of flying. The airBaltic spokesman, Janis Vanags, could not but declare that the company pursues a policy of “zero tolerance” towards alcohol.
