Prince – the famous and polyhedral singer-songwriter from Minneapolis – officially announced that he will release the new album “Hitnrun” on September7th. The novelty is that the album will be released exclusively on the Tidal platform –founded by Jay Z and a group of colleagues among whom Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Jack White, Kanye West, Daft Punk, Arcade Fire and Rihanna – born after numerous singers’ protest against the main platforms, guilty of paying too little.
The 57 years old singer of “Purple rain” decided to say goodbye to all music streaming platforms on July of this year, announcing his choice to his fans via social networks. The entire list has been removed from Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Deezer, Rdio and many others to appear exclusively on Tidal. “Prince’s staff asked every streaming service to remove his songs list – wrote Spotify on the page dedicated to the artist. We are now fulfilling the request hoping that Prince will decide to bring his music back as soon as possible”.
In May, Prince’s live “Rally 4 peace” was broadcast in streaming exclusively on Tidal. For the occasion, in a public announcement Prince sang praises to Tidal and Jay Z asserting: “ After only a meeting, it was clear that Jay Z and the team assembled for Tidal, recognize and appreciate the efforts that real musicians make for their art to achieve the best, in this particular moment for music industry. In the second place Tidal did us the honor of stipulating an open contract that will allow us to produce art the way it is more suitable for us and we are extremely grateful for their generous support”.
