A month to visit free of charge the collection of the Museo Madre. It is the initiative of the City in Naples that from 1st to 31st August will allow visits to all current exhibitions, collections and the opportunity to access the summer activities of the museum. The project is proposed with the aim of offering the opportunity to approach the artistic research of the present by visiting the regional museum of contemporary art. In the room “the Republic mother” on the ground floor will be open (until 31 August 2015), the great exhibition organized for the Mother by the French artist Daniel Buren, which celebrates the relationship between the museum and its audience, between the institution and his community.
On the first floor there are the works from the collection site-specific, while going through the halls of the second floor and various other spaces (terrace_ courtyard_ lobby and mezzanine), the public can visit the new permanent collection of the Mother-in-progress_ and in particular the more than hundred works of “perform a collection # 4”, the latest chapter of the project started in 2013 and dedicated by the museum to the progressive establishment of its permanent collection. An exhibition that tells the history of avant-garde culture with particular reference to what happened in Naples and Campania in the last fifty years_ but at the same time explores the present and suggests the future through the inclusion of artists who respond new works in this story.
Finally, on the third floor of the museum (until September 21st 2015), the first solo exhibition an Italian public institution dedicated to Elaine Sturtevant, Golden Lion at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011. From its title, “Sturtevant Sturtevant “the exhibition is organized around the concept and practice of repetition, understood as a collective device, engaging with some of the most iconic personality of his time, by the master of modernity Marcel Duchamp to Pop Art, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg and Frank Stella, to Joseph Beuys and artists who emerged in the eighties as Paul McCarthy and Robert Gobert, among others. Also every weekend in August, the museum education Mother offers a program of educational visits, which are also free, and both the current exhibitions and the collections, every Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 11:00 hours and at 17:00.
