The FBI has identified the killer of the massacre in the church of Charleston: his name is Dylann Storm Roof, 21. It was announced by the police of the city. Racism could be the motive that drove the young man to carry out the massacre in the church frequented by the black community of Charleston. The young man is currently wanted, he would be wearing boots, jeans and a gray T-shirt. Nine people were killed, while the city’s mayor said one person was injured. The Reverend Al Sharpton announced in a tweet that among the victims there was the pastor of the church, a Democratic minister from South Carolina, Clements Pinkney, 41, father of two children.
The man had targeted the Methodist Episcopal church African Emanuel, which on its website describes itself as one of the largest and oldest black congregations south of Baltimore. It seems that when the 21-year-old broke into the church a Bible study group was meeting. In addition, after the shooting the news of a bomb threat in the area of the church was spread. Some people were evacuated by police, but no weapons were found.
In Charleston a white police officer was indicted for shooting behind a young black man’s back, Walter Scott, killing him. Rev. Pinckney was one of the symbols of the vigil over Scott.
