The Holy See seems to have made a few steps towards the Fraternity of St. Pius X. A glimmer of openness is proved by the decision of the Vatican to give to Bishop Bernard Fellay the task of judging one of the priests belonging to the fraternity.
“Sometimes, unfortunately, even priests do stupid things, and they must be punished. And when the “stupid thing” is very, very serious, we have to appeal to Rome. So I was chosen by the Vatican, by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, to judge some of our priests”, Bishop Fellay said. “A contradiction indeed”.
Archbishop Guido Pozzo, Secretary of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, explained the situation to the Vatican Insider: “The decision of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith does not mean that all the problems have been solved, but it is a sign of good will and magnanimity – the Archbishop said – I do not see any contradiction, rather a step towards reconciliation”.
