At Milan Expo Bono appealed for “a world without hunger”. The message of the Irish rocker came during a meeting organized by Coldiretti and the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, during which was screened in world premiere a video of U2 leader inviting the world to reflect on the words of Pope Francis.
“In the coming weeks – explained Bono – the G7 will meet in Germany. The leaders of Africa will meet each other in Johannesburg. Then, all the countries will go to Adis Abeba, where they will discuss how to spend the funds over the next fifteen years”.
At this point, U2 frontman pointed out that “only a third of the funds reaches the poorest nations, and corruption drains these scant funds, food and medicine for the world’s poorest people. We have to defeat corruption. Our entire dignity is at stake,”Then the singer invited everyone to join forces in order to build “a human family with food for everyone”, so as to support “the renewed Jubilee to which his holiness Pope Francis has called.”
In conclusion, the leader of U2 expressed his wish to talk with the Pope: “This is a really important thing. If you do not mind please bring my message, a humble message, to His Holiness, Pope Francis, of whom I am a big fan, and who isn’t? Pope Francis, your solidarity with the most vulnerable people has truly inspired me and many of us beyond words, beyond music. We want to work with you, for you, on this . I’m ready to work, I’m ready to walk, I’m ready to face the structures of poverty and indifference that trap the poor in poverty, injustice and hunger.”
