Two leaders of the US tax agency – the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) – who decided to stay anonymous, declared that the agency is sure that Russian hackers violated its servers, stealing thousands of sensitive data of its contributors. It is not the first time that Russian hackers are brought in the problems of the governmental departments of the U.S. In fact, according to U.S. officials, in the past Russian hackers had probably tried to steal confidential data on penalty matters.
According to the spokesman of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, claiming that the hackers who violated the IRS’ servers work for the Russian government “is simply ridiculous”. He also stated that the CNN reportage, aired in early April, was absurd. In it the Russian hackers were accused of having violated the security systems of the White House and of the State Department. According to Peskov, “it is the same old attempt to accuse Moscow of everything”. The hack attack to IRS allowed the hackers to steal more than 100.000 contributors’ sensitive data. The security systems were violated between February and May 2015.
