Environtmental emergency in Santa Barbara, California because of an oil pipeline that broke; at least 21,000 gallons of oil in Goleta Beach and at Refugio State Beach.
The LA Times online said there was a more than 6-km-long and 50-m-wide line of oil, which contaminated two beaches. Emergency squads arrived immediately and are still trying to reduce damages; local authorities are trying to understand what caused the damage and are coordinating cleaning operations.
CNN reported that the broken oil pipeline, which was immediately closed, is property of Houston Plains All American Pipeline. Fortunately, no one was wounded, but environmental damages have not been quantified yet.
