A SPEECH OF POPE FRANCIS WILL BE OPENING THE ASSEMBLY OF THE CEI Card. Bagnasco will announce the traditional ‘prolusion’

Today at 6 pm, the General assembly of the Italian Episcopal Conference will start in the Hall of the Synod at the Holy See. Pope Francis will pronounce the opening speech for the second year in a row. Card. Angelo Bagnasco is in charge of the traditional ‘prolusion’. After the prolusion, bishops will start discussing the main topic of this year’s assembly: verifying how the Apostolic Exhortation ‘Evangelii Gaudium’ was received.

Other topics of discussion are the path in preparation to the fifth National Ecclesiastic Convention (in Florence November 9th to 13th, 2015); the presentation of the planning of the topics discussed during the previous General Assembly “Life and Permanent Formation of Presbyters”; the next Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy (December 8th, 2015 to November 20th, 2016); and a some juridical and administrative decision connected to the CEI balance sheet and the 8×1000 funds.

Moreover, the assembly has to elect a vice president for the south of Italy, the presidents of Episcopal Commission, the representatives of the CEI at the XVI General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops (October 4th to 25th,2015) and the member of the Council for Economic Affairs. On Wednesday (May 20th) at 8.30 am, in Saint Peter, there will be the Eucharistic celebration with Card. Marc Oullet, prefect of the Congregation of bishops. On Thursday (May 21st) there will be in the Nervi Hall, the press conference with Card. Pres. Bagnasco.
