Making a virtual tour, you can admire some forts and tunnels of the highlands of Lavarone, Luserna, Folgaria, following the numerous damages caused by World War I and the extraction of iron during the Fascist period. The original engineering complexity of the structures will be made accessible thanks to a 3D reconstruction, which has been created by engineers and researchers of the ‘Fondazione Kessler’ from Trento. The project, which has taken about two years to complete, focuses on the forts of Sommo Alto, Luserna, Verle, Dosso delle Somme, Cima Vezzana and Cherle.
The work was developed by experts of the 3DOM research unit of the Centre for materials and Microsystems of FBK as part of a project VAST (History and Territory Requalification). To obtain the 3D digital model, a procedure in stages was planned. First, the historical designs of the projects at the historical archives of Trento were transformed into digital format and then through historical photos and other studies, missing details were added. Later researchers produced a series of reliefs using photogrammetric and laser- scan acquisitions. Finally, all the material to make the 3D models were integrated, in turn entered into a digital land model to give a more realistic effect. The work will permit the realisation of communicative, educational content and media in order to promote the cultural offer of the museums in the area of the “highlands” in Trentino.
