The trip will cover the Latin American countries starting from Ecuador, through to Peru and then to His own Argentina. This is the itenarary of the trip that will last 9 days, from 5th to 13th July next, which will bring Pope Francis to South America, as according to the official programme of the apostolic journey, made public by the Press Office of the Holy Seat.
Quinto, Ecuador’s capital, Francis will land on 5th July and will deliver His first speech at the International Airport “Mariscal Sucre”. The next morning, He will fly to Guayaquil, to preside over mass at the ‘Shrine of the Divine Mercy’, then return to Quito for a courtesy visit to the President of the Republic and a stopover in the Cathedral. Tuesday 7th, the agenda includes a meeting with Ecuadorian bishops, mass, the encounter with the world of school and the University and with civil society. Two more commitments will bring the Pope, on the morning of 8th July to visit the nursing home of the missionaries of charity and to meet with priests, religious and seminarians in the local National Marian Sanctuary “El Quinche”.
In the afternoon of 8th July, the Pope will fly to the international airport in El Alto, a La Paz, capital of Bolivia. After the welcoming ceremony, during the following hours, the Pope will make a courtesy visit to the President in the Palace of the government and talk with the civil authorities in the city’s Cathedral. In the evening, the Pope will fly to Santa Cruzde la Sierra, where the following morning He will celebrate mass and in the afternoon be alongside Bolivian priests, religious and seminarians to then end the day by taking part in the second world meeting of popular movements in ExpoExhibition Centre Feria. Even in this case, before leaving for Paraguay, on the morning of 10th July, He will devote a visit to the Centre of Rehabilitation Santa Cruz-Palmasola and hold a meeting with the Bishops of Bolivia.
He is scheduled to arrive in Paraguay on 15th July, where there will be a welcoming ceremony at the International Airport “Silvio Pettirossi”. The Pope will engage in institutional committments first in the Palace de Lopes, where He will visit the President of the Republic, following the meeting with the authorities and the diplomatic corps.
Saturday, July 11, the Holy Father will be with the children of the General Paediatric Hospital “Ninos de Acosta Nu”, then will preside at the Eucharistic liturgy on piazzale Santuario mariano Caacupé. In the afternoon, Pope Francis will be with civil society representatives to preside over the celebration of Vespers with the clergy and the religious community of the country, along with members of Catholic movements, in the ‘Cathedral of the Assumption.’ On the last day of His visit, the Pope will visit the population of Bañado Norte, and proceed with the celebration of mass in Campo grande of Ñu Guazú and meet with local bishops. To conclude, the afternoon, will be marked by the encounter with the youth of Paraguay then, around 7pm local time, He will fly back to Rome in the Vatican as has been released in the official programme of the Vatican.
