GREGORIAN AND JEWISH SONGS TO COMMEMORATE THE END OF WWII The CD is created by Austrian monks of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey

  • Italiano

A new and interreligious musical initiative organized by monks of Heiligenkreuz Abbey (in the South of Austria) to commemorate 70 years from the end of WWII. Today was presented the “Chant for Peace”, a collection of traditional chants from Gregorian and Jewish Chassidim and Yemenites tradition, performed bythe monks and the Jewish singer Timna Brauer.

The Elias Meiri Ensemble – cello, guitar, harpsichord and percussion – accompanies the performance of the monks. This is the sixth album of the famous performers of the global religious music scene. Timna Bauer openly requested to sing with them. During the last few months they performed together in concerts and then chose to create the album.

This project – said father Karl Wallner, spokesperson of the Abbey – was launched definitely “after the attack in Paris, anti-Semitism is spreading around the world”. However, monks are faithful to their duties and are not going to follow Timna Bauer in her world tour. “We are monks and we do not sing for money – said Wallner – it is our prayer, we sing our love for God and we never wanted any fame or attention”.
