Daniel Bowman – student in North Caroline University – was leading some researches when he recorded numerous noises about 36 km from earth. He used a microphone on a balloon probe between Mexico and Arizona. Pseudo-experts immediately started speculations saying it is aliens, signals from other dimentions or messages from Atlantis. At the moment, not even the NASA was able to explain rationally why there are these sounds, but experts are leading researches.

Up to now, many balloon probes have been sent, but no one ever thought of recording at such height. The recorded sound is an infrasound, which means humans cannot hear it if it is not “treated”. This time, the problem was solved speeding the recording up so that it reached 20 Hz.

In truth, these mysterious sounds are not that mysterious. For example, in Parkes (Australia), some ‘strange’ sounds were recorded with a radio telescope. It was no alien; it was just a microwave oven. Emily Petroff, of Melbourne University, noticed that these sounds were only audible during work hours and concluded that impatient people produced them opening the oven before the time went off.
