On May 10th, there is a private audience with the Holy Father and the President of the Republic of Cuba, Raul Castro. The meeting is in the Paul IV Audience Hall, said Federico Lombardi – head of the Vatican Press. The spokesperson of the Holy See recalled how Castro thanked the Pope for his role in the relation between Cuba and the USA.
This is just the prelude to the handshake they will exchange in September. On April 17, the Vatican reported the desire of Bergoglio to land in the Avana before reaching the State, but it is too soon to speak of an official plan, their relation has just started”. Nevertheless, after just 5 days, Father Lombardi made the visit of Pope Francis to the Caribbean Island official; hence, he is the third Pope to meet the population of Avana.
After this visit, the Pope is flying to the States for a meeting with the Washington Congress on September 24, and on 25th he will be in New York and in Philadelphia where he is going to attend the World Day of Family.
