Discrimination and a bad taste in mouth, the “problem” was a 7-year-old child. The writer and journalist Gianluca Nicoletti wrote the story on www.miofiglioautistico.it. Elena, from Ravenna, lives with her husband and child; on April 28, they traveled to Rome to bring their child to the hospital for a neuropsychiatric visit at Bambin Gesù Hospital.
Because of bad weather, they had trouble parking in the center of Rome. Therefore, when they got to the B&B the boy was nervous and tired. It appeared that they did not find a welcoming and understanding person at the reception, on the contrary, the owner did not approve of them. He was afraid the child could be too noisy and bother other clients, if that was the case “he would have called the officers”.
Shortly, the couple understood they were not welcome and chose to find another place. In the end, the family was forced to stay at some relative’s in Ardea – 50 km away from Rome. Needless to say, this was hard on the child and the visit the next day could have been compromised by his agitation. In addition, the post on the blog reported that someone contacted the B&B and asked for a room for a family with an idiot savant child. The person who answered told what happened the day before and added that if the child behaves like that “it would be better for them to look for another place”.
