The two attackers died, they tried to shoot the Curtis Culwell Center of Garland, Dallas in Texas. Here, there was a competition organized by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, the best (most offensive) cartoon about Mohammed would have won $10,000. The organization itself considered this event very risky, this is why they hired about forty private guards.
The attack was after 7pm (local time), when the competition was nearly over. Two people arrived by car in front of the Congress Center and started shooting. Officers responded killing both attackers. They have not been identified yet. The area was immediately closed and special squads arrived and controlled the car: there was a bomb inside.
Among the 200 participants to the event, there was Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician who is famous for his xenophobic ideas; he is in Al Qaeda’s black list. The American-Yemenite Imam, Anwar al Awlaki who is important for western jihadists asked to target him. In addition, it seems that a few hours before the attack, a Twitter account dedicated to the Imam, launched the hashtag #texesattack. The man tweeting spoke about some mission with his “brother” and pledged loyalty to the ISIS Caliphate, Al Baghdadi.
