While Renzi was giving a speech at the Festa dell’Unità in Bologna, about a hundred protestors among the people attempted to access the Park Montagnola, where the closing of the event had been planned. Not succeeding in entering through piazza XX settembre, people starting spitting at policemen and a procession accessed through two other gates, those at piazza VIII Agosto. Here they found 80 militants of the Cobas school who were protesting with pots and spoons as they had done a few days ago with Giannini.
Following the first clashes, the police retaliated firing for a short while. A protester has been stopped and a woman fell on the ground, and was then taken away on a stretcher.
The Premier, surrounded by reporters, has not released any comments on the protest. And referring to the minority oposition group within the Democratic party said: “I don’t smash anyone’s head, but I won’t give up” these have been Renzi’s words in response to the militants who were inviting him , in fact to “crush the elephant-heads ” of the party. “We won’t allow anyone to intimidate us – he added – the whistles of those who donot agree. Our duty is to change Italy”.
