When in Rome do as the Romans do, so goes an old proverb. In some up-country regions in China for example there is the tradition that during funerals, there is often a strip-tease. A common practice, but which the Ministry of Culture has decided to abolish as considered to be “uncivilized”.
The reason that led to the spread of this strange phenomenon, is the fact that the family members of the deceased, in order to cavea many attendees as possible to the funeral, pay dearly for women to perform the strip-tease which would attract more “people invited” to the ceremony. In Asian culture funeral celebrations are the last chance for the family and the community to ensure that the deceased has a serene trip towards his afterlife. And culture wants it that the larger the crowd, the higher the class and importance of the deceased person is.
Some images from the Cnn, one can see mourners of all ages, from children to elders who watch the red light show. “I had heard of hiring strippers for funerals, but I had never seen it in person. I was shocked when I saw them, “said a man at the American television station. The Ministry of culture has decided to put an end to all this: “These performances-it reads-undermine the cultural value of show business”.
