A new case putting in the shadows the work of the Mexican police officers. Last January 6, some men of the Apatzingan forces killed 16 civilians. According to the official version, there was a shooting between police officers and some armed men, causing 16 people to die.

Now, the attorney of the City of Mexico and federal officers chose to investigate to verify the event, it is possible that the declaration of the officers are not truthful.
The journalist Laura Castellanos is the one putting the shadow of doubt on their testimonies; she released an article on the weekly Proxceso and on the site Arisegui Noticias, reporting that the officers were responsible for the slaughter. The journalist searched the area, collected testimonies and videos showing the federal officers shooting a group of disarmed vigilantes; they are also called “rural force”, they were born to resist to the violence of the Knights Templar.

Some days ago, very piece of information she released became viral on social networks and some users create the hashtag #FueronLosFederales (Federals did it). After the investigations, both the journalist and some collaborators and eyewitnesses were threatened; Castellanos is now under protection of Article 19 – an international organization supporting freedom of expression.
