After the general audience this morning, Pope Francis met with the family of Asia Bibi, who decided to take a trip to Europe to sensitize governments and institutions and ask for an intervention to free the woman who became symbol of injustice and abuse of anti-blasphemy law in Pakistan.

“When you kiss the Pope’s hand, do it for me too. That will be my kiss. And ask him for his blessing”. These are the words of the Christian mother arrested in 2009 because she insulted the Prophet Muhammad in 2010 and was sentenced to death. “Holy Father, pray for Asia Bibi, for us, for all persecuted Christians in Pakistan” asked the family of the woman in their short interview with the Pontiff. “The Pope – reports the website Vaticaninsider- listened to them, greeted and blessed them”, Pope Francis said, “I pray for Asia, for you and for all Christians who suffer,”

Speaking to Vatican Radio he also added, “For six years, my wife has been in prison, but she is innocent, the situation is bad – said the husband – I am asking for the help of Italy and Europe. My wife is very strong in her faith; she is mentally and psychologically fine. Her hope is in God and in prayer.
