Jean-Marie Le Pen has given up running for the regional elections in Provence- Alps-Cote D’Azur the macro-region much sought after by the president of the party. The leader of FN announced it to a journalist of Figaro Magazine who had put forward the question regarding his candidacy as leader of the region, or if, as imposed by the party-leader, his daughter Marine, he would give up his candidacy for the position. On this occasion Le Pen has declared that he would not run for the elections commenting: “I think I’d be the best candidate for Front National”. Nevertheless he added, “if I have to sacrfice it for the future of the movement, I won’t certainly be the one to cause the damage”.
Answering the second question, as o whom he saw fit to take his place, the president Fn had indicated undoubtedly Marion Maréchal-Le Pen: “If he accepts I think he would be a very effective leader. Certainly the best, I won’t say after me but at least like me”. In the meantime the weekly magazine Le Point has confirmed that the niece of Le Pen has accepted candidacy, arousing opposition from the Euro-deputy Bruno Gollnisch, who anounced that she intends in her turn proposing hersel1f as leader, again leaving the decision up to the political party meeting fixed for 17th April.
